 Ecology

Ecology is the study that helps to preserve the Earth, its plants and animals. It is also supposed to study the environment and the relationship between human activities and nature. Until recently this relationship was in balance. However, at present times we have to face such ecological problems as acid rain, global warming, loss of rare species, ozone reduction, etc. Many scientists think that it is connected with industrial boom and development of civilization in the world. Building numerous factories people have started to interfere intensively in nature. Every year world industry pollutes the atmosphere with tons of dust and other harmful things. As a result, many species of animals and plants disappear forever, including fish and birds. Many large cities suffer from factory smog. Their activity pollutes the air, the water, the forests and the land. Apart from factories there are lots of vehicles in the streets of every more or less developed city. It includes cars, motorbikes, buses, minivans, trucks and other types of transport which use fuel. First of all, they exhaust toxic gases into the air. Secondly, they are considered to be the main noise offenders in the city. This problem progresses as the number of cars increases from year to year. As a result the level of harmful substances in the air also increases. Another problem which is worth mentioning is the tree cutting. Trees are a source of oxygen and clean air. So, by doing this people simply violate the biological balance. All the above mentioned ecological problems are the result of man’s careless interaction with nature. On my opinion, environmental protection should become of a global concern and serious measures should be taken to create ecological security.

 Ecology

1) What is ecology?

2) What does ecology study?

3) What do the ecologists study?

4) What does ecology teach us?

5) Do you think our environment is healthy?

6) What types of renewable energy do you know?

Earth is our planet and our only home. Our life depends on the way we interact with each other, with other creatures and the environment. Ecology studies all these processes.

Today mankind faces a lot of complicated ecological problems. When it comes to the environment our main problem is pollution. Tons of harmful substances emitted in the atmosphere because of our activity such as exhaust fumes, radioactive particles, dust and chemicals.

Another important ecological problem is the depletion of natural resources. Every year our planet has less and less fresh water, mineral resources, wood and fertile land.

Of course people are trying to do something about it today. In order to help solving these problems and minimize the negative impact humans produce on Earth the United Nations created environmental protection program.

Relationship between humans and animals are not so good either. Lots of rear kinds of animals are disappearing off the face of the earth even if it’s prohibited to hunt them. Poaching thrives nowadays.

However, we shouldn’t underestimate the positive things that people do in these regards. We are doing our best to plant as many trees as we can, restore the soil and forested areas. We produce new plants, animals and fish using selection method. I hope that it will lead to the time when ecological situation gets better and people’s life will get better too.

THE KREMLIN
The Kremlin is the heart of Moscow. It is the oldest historical and architectural centre of Moscow.
First it was a wooden fortress. Under Dmitry Donskoy the Kremlin was built of white stone. During the reign of Ivan III the walls of white stone were replaced by new red bri ck walls and towers. The Tsar invited Italian architects to construct the cathedrals. The Assumption Cathedral was built in 1475-1479 and all Russian Tsars and Emperors were crowned there. The Archangel Cathedral was the burial place of the Russian Princes and Tsars. The Annuiciation Cathedral was built in 1484. It is famous for the icons painted by Andrey Rublev and his apprentices. Ivan the Great is the Bell Tower, one of the most remarkable structures of the 16-th century. It rises in the certre of the Kremlin. It unites all the Kremlin Cathedrals into a majestic ensemble.
On the stone pedestal at the foot of the Bell Tower there is a Tsar-Bell — the largest bell in the world. Not far from it one can see a Tsar-Cannon.
Another fine example of Russian architecture is the Faceted Palace. It was built in 1487-91.
One of the well-known Kremlin museums is the Armoury Chamber. It was built in 1851. The famous golden cap of Monomach, the first Russian imperial crown of Catherine II, made of gilt silver and many other precious historical items are exhibited there.

UK Political System

UK Political System

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is constitutional monarchy. This means that Great Britain is governed by the Parliament and the Queen is Head of State.

The legislative power in the country is exercised by the Houses of Parliament. The British Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The House of Lords is composed of hereditary and life peers and peeresses. The members of the House of Commons are elected by the people. They are elected from the constituencies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The House of Commons is the real governing body of the United Kingdom.

The executive power is exercised by Prime Minister and his Cabinet. The government is usually formed by the political party which is supported by the majority in the House of Commons. Prime Minister is the majority party leader and is appointed by the Queen. Prime Minister chooses a team of ministers; twenty of the ministers are in the Cabinet.

The second largest party becomes the official opposition with its own leader and the Shadow Cabinet. The two leading parties in Great Britain are the Conservative Party (the Tories) and the Labour Party.

The judiciary branch of the government determines common law and is independent of both the legislative and the executive branches.

There is no written constitution in Great Britain, only precedents and traditions.
